DENNY
ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT

Denny residence was originally built in 1960's as a 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom

1,550 square feet house. Although the house was decent in size, it was overwhelmed with many small clusters of spaces.  The original plan did not suit the lifestyle of the new occupants. Being family oriented and having a large family, the new owner's desire was to have a large welcoming space for the main entry through the living area and into the backyard. In addition to that, they also wished to have a separate living quarter for their elderly mother.

ArcSTEM team carefully analyzed the existing site conditions, the existing house, and the neighborhood in order to visualize the outcome of the project. The team proposed an addition of 1,589 square feet to an existing dwelling. A 554 square feet part of the addition would be an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for their mother, the rest would be added to the main house to create more rooms and the space they desired.

In the outcome, the new owners have 3,139 square foot 4 bedroom 3 bathroom, an office space, large open kitchen with living room area, backyard with a pool, and a Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for their mother.

The foyer has high ceiling and wall openings all around the top area to create a welcoming space by letting the sunlight in during the day, and serve as a beacon during the evening. The beacon is a resemblance of the importance of the family. The foyer leads to open living, dining, and kitchen area  with an opening to the backyard. In the second floor, we have situated the main master suit which is directly above the newly constructed attached Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU).
